Yes they indeed are a stupidly heavy band, but they kinda lost some of the songwriting chops that made their earlier material engagingly heavy. The closer contains some experimentations of the band's soundscape, and the record would be much better if such experimentations were replicated in other songs.

Knocked Loose has often been seen as one of those metalcore and deathcore bands that are more pretentious and overhyped due to their hardcore fans. However, much of the hype for this band is warranted, even from someone like me who has enjoyed their past two albums but wasn't as drawn to them as others have been. The band's third album, "You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To," could go down as one of the most essential metalcore albums of all time. Everything from the production to the playing is top-notch for the metalcore genre, going toe-to-toe with Converge (and, for me, surpassing Converge). The album is brimming with ideas, from the incredibly thick production to the two features from Poppy and Motionless in White. You have to give the band a lot of credit for what they're doing here. Plus, the lyrics resonate deeply for those who understand the themes. I can see a lot of people not checking this out if they're not into this kind of music, but if you're at all into great production, you have to listen because it's incredible.

Highest Praist, this is just (genre) perfection. You could not do this kind of music better: artwork, production, songs, pacing, unique vocals, everything. Everyone should check this out who has love left for aggressive and heavy music. If you want to have only one metalcore-, beatdown-, hardcore with breakdowns- whatever album in your collection, then it should be the new Knocked Loose. This is also Zeitgeist or a very modern and stylish album.

solid fun beatdown junz with heavy ass breakdowns that really pop with a nice crunchy guitar tone but very predictable and formulaic besides the great melodic atmospheric closer. it thankfully doesn't overstay it's welcome though. also some more vocal variety like the gutturals at the end of "moss covers all" or hooks like on "the calm that keeps you awake" would've added a lot. a good time but nowhere near aoty material. play at the gym for all your gainz.
edit- this ended up growing on me a bit after a few more jams and going back and listening to "a tear in the fabric of life". this is definitely a bit more varied, a touch more intricate with melodic dissonance breaking up the chugs and has a stronger groove to it which i appreciate. "piece by piece" and almost nu-metal esque "the calm that keeps you awake" stand out on more listens with great breakdown callouts and groovy riffs. the thing that stands out to me on some more listens is how well the album flows as a complete work, i end up getting sucked in and listening to more than i intended. much more memorable than i gave it credit for as i keep coming back for more.
