rIt?s been clear since the debut single that this album was going to be something special, and the final product stands as one of Ihsahn?s finest solo works. Buuuuut it?s not a shitty post punk revival so it?ll naturally wind up criminally underrated here

A nice mix of his last two full lengths and the Pharos EP. rThe orchestration is incredibly well done, and really fits the writing.

Easily his best since Arktis, and avoids a lot of the pitfalls that plague orchestral metal. Did not leave a lasting impression upon an immediate listen like Artkis or After (his magnum opus), but time will tell if this one is a keeper or an interesting experiment.

Actually, it was pretty cool. Maybe a few times the flow was sacrificed for achieving "grander progressiveness" (=annoyance). But hey, since it happened just a few times, I can't complain because this is already better than how I feel about most of Ihsahn's solo albums. Oh and his clean singing was way better than his harsh vocals.

Competent symphoprog metal - none of these two genres enthrall me but this was nevertheless solid.

I find myself struggling to grasp the appeal of this band. Hailing from Norway, this progressive and symphonic black metal outfit delivers another installment of the sound they've cultivated over nearly two decades. Personally, I find that the black metal elements clash with the triumphant and grand symphonic and progressive metal passages. The black metal screams seem to detract from the genuine beauty of the instrumentals. In my opinion, a band like this would benefit from transitioning into a purely instrumental ensemble, as the instrumentals are exceptionally orchestrated and performed. The screaming vocals only serve to disrupt the listening experience.
