4.5 superbdidnt ask to be staff, was made staff anyway, then got demoted for not doing staff stuff | May 13th 24

Pratt heightens the intimacy of her musicianship and delivery, as well as the mastery over song-writing. What comes of it is an album both haunting and gorgeous, while remaining relaxingly simple.

Jessica Pratt?s 2019 release, ?Quiet Signs,? introduced me to the delights of simple, airy contemporary folk music?a genre she masters with grace. Her fourth full-length album, ?Here in the Pitch,? retains the understated, ethereal ambiance that initially captivated me, yet marks a notable evolution in her musical approach. This album layers a richer, more varied instrumental palette that incorporates drums, horns, strings, and piano, enriching the textures that define her work. Moreover, there?s a pronounced sense of swing and rhythm not as prevalent in her earlier efforts, which adds a welcome dynamic to the overall feel. However, the album stumbles at the outset; the opening track feels lackluster, especially when juxtaposed against the more compelling compositions that follow. Additionally, while the brevity of some tracks does maintain a certain charm, there are moments where I found myself yearning for Pratt to linger a bit longer, allowing the listener to fully immerse in the atmospheric depth of her music. In summary, ?Here in the Pitch? showcases Jessica Pratt?s continued sophistication and growth as an artist, offering listeners both continuity and innovation in her exploration of contemporary folk.

Honestly one of the most relaxing and calming albums I've ever listened to her. Her voice is very ethereal and beyond haunting. My only real reason I didn't give this a 5 is I just wish it was much longer.rIt would have been perfect at like 13-15 tracks. She really is wonderful and unique.

Pratt's Here in the Pitch sounds like a lost 60s gem: her distant vocals work wonders with those good ol' brill building arrangements and bossa nova-led folk strummings. An enchanting release.
