Despite my fondness for Dire Straits, I never had the chance to explore Knopfler's solo work. rOne Deep River is his tenth solo record with the title referencing the Tyne which bisects Knopfler's childhood hometown of Newcastle, England. Apart from being the album's opener, 'Two Pairs of Hands' is also a tip of the hat to his early Dire Straits days. The rest of the album has a mellow bluesy approach with Mark's signature lead guitar play accompanying mid-tempo rhythms and his beautiful lyrics. His voice always had an ageless feel and yet, it aged with quality: full, calm and with his familiar drawl narrating lovely stories. Recommendations: "Two Pairs of Hands", "Smart Money", "Scavengers Yard", "Janine", "Watch Me Gone"
