| 4.5 superb | charles2000 | February 19th 10 | Sounds kinda mediocre. I guess if you like Mastodon, this has to be good, but otherwise this is just the same ol' rawkin metuhl we've heard before.

| 3.0 good | zen5729 | February 26th 10 | Snakes for the Divine is another sludgy, crushing release from High on Fire. While there's some terrific, lightning-fast guitar work from Matt Pike and some machine-gun drumming by Des Kensel, there are songs like "Bastard Samurai" that wallow in the muck too long, interrupting the fury and continuity of the album. This style of heavy metal offers a lot for a wide-range of listeners to like, headbanger or not, but though this release is likable, it doesn't quite measure up to last year's output by genre powerhouses like Baroness and Mastodon.

| 4.5 superb | Laceye | February 25th 10 | album rules, only thing from preventing it from being a 5 is the iffy production. This, however, should not hold anyone back from listening to it.

| 4.0 excellent | barneygumble | February 24th 10 | It's still fantasy war metal but its more focused then Death is this Comm. maybe a little less experimental

| 4.0 excellent | nbmatt | February 24th 10 | This album seems to find the band making the leap from stoner sludge metal to stoner heavy metal. There is much more happening here than what is found in their previous albums and that is definitely a good thing.

| 4.5 superb | thewineoftyrants | February 23rd 10 | Very well-produced, and I have to give it props for not being at all flawed in any way. Comm was an easy 5, this isn't quite as sublime...but it's quite clearly their second-best work taken as a whole.

| 4.0 excellent | ThePalestMexican | February 19th 10 | Doesn't top Death is This Communion, but it's still pretty damn impressive. Some of the catchiest riffs ever created by man, and a nice piece of sludge metal.

| 3.5 great | rage11111ro | November 7th 21 | This might get 'the worst soundoff prize' despite the massive competition but: to me part of this sounds like Maiden meets Kreator which is not bad per se but is below what hof offers in general. Also gets slower than the hof norm at times, interesting, not necessarily working well though.

| 3.4 great | Erwann S. EMERITUS | May 19th 21 | Great metal all around: mix of stoner (it's Matt Pike innit), thrashy riffs, heavy metal solis, raspy vocals, machine-gun drumming, and a kinda ok production. It's energetic, (kinda) catchy and boppy, but some tracks do meander for a tad too long without bringing the punch the best tracks (ie, the t/t) have got in them.

| 4.0 excellent | Chino smoking it up! | October 17th 18 | I don't think this is bland at all. Sure I get your production issues, less sludgier less
"Sleepier" vibe, but this has bad ass riffs as hell. I kinda enjoyed this more than Luminiferous
f.e. If this is officially their worst work is just fine by me X) whata band m/ Fave Tracks:

| 0.0 | TylerLamberg | April 3rd 13 | Most of the tracks just drag on wayyyy too long for my tastes. A lot of the drum work felt
samey throughout. The guitar work is impressive, but I couldn't always get into it. Vocals
are slightly below average. I would give this a 3.25 if possible, though. Favorite tracks:
Ghost Neck and the bonus track, Mystery Of Helm

| 3.0 good | rabidgodtransmission | January 19th 11 | Snakes For the Divine is definitely a grower. At first listens I was sort of underwhelmed. First 3 tracks are solid and I'm really digging the instrumental track The Path and its segueway into Fire Flood And Plague. Reprising some riffs and making the second half of the album more memorable. Not an immediate 'I just fell in love' album, but after a half dozen spins everything starts revealing itself.

| 4.0 excellent | SteelErectedb4you8er | February 28th 10 | This album gets better with each listen. I automatically loved the first three tracks, but the others have really grown on me. As a fan for 7 years, I am happy that they still bring more intensity with each release.

| 3.5 great | jimjim9790 | February 27th 10 | A good and solid metal album. Matt Pike still amazes us with his guitar playing (especially the riffs). Drumming is heavy and stays consistent throughout. Bass is audible giving the album a little more depth and heaviness. Lyrics and themes stay true to High on Fire's past (very battle-like if you will). Biggest difference from some of the other albums is the production. Greg Fidelmann was able to get a job with Slayer and High on Fire after butchering Metallica's Death Magnetic... to make it even worse than it already was. The sound is loud and the vocals are way up front. Like I said, the drums are heavy and consistent ..but not as thunderous as on previous albums. Also, Pike's voice might sound a little weird at first. Other problem is some songs seem to lose focus every once in a while, therefore making parts forgettable. All in all a solid metal album that is surely to be on end of year lists and of course is great to bang your head to.
