Fragmented homilies and rustic lonesomeness. "Bright Future" is at its best when ruminating
on the parts of life that are uncomfortable and inescapable. The homogenous sound does
grate, which is something that Lenker will always lack without Big Thief behind her - the
album definitely needed a few tracks with a shift in mood as Lenker's keening voice goes
from vulnerable to milksop by the end.

For me the best songwriter record of the last years since Carrie & Lowell. Its charm und simplicity reminds me of my alltime favorite songwriter record Loupita from Kristofer Aström crossed with the rawness of Bright Eyes' Lifted and the honesty of Elliott Smith.

Even without BIG THIEFS, she creates a therapeutic sound that is not only well, poetically, written, but entirely self-preserved in its style of alt-folk/country. A gorgeous and beautiful record.

Bright Future is yet another proof (not that it was needed) that Lenker is currently the best singer-songwriter. Her sweet, sweet voice and incursions in yeehawism carry a mellow sometimes too mellow look at that midway lull vibe that never shies away from the heaviness of her touching lyrics (imma non-lyric mf, and she managed to warm my rotten lil heart).
