4.5 superb | NikkiAngelus | August 25th 22 | This is the HIM album that took me the longest to learn how to truly get. Almost a decade to be exact.rI was fifteen when this album came out, just coming out of the super heavy Venus Doom. Naturally, this bold new pop sound didn't quite sit with me. I did bought this record, listened to it religiously and really tried to like it.rMy by 20's, I found my love of 80's music and gave this record a new perspective. Suddenly it was great: Ville Valo is an 80's child and you can clearly hear his passion toward the era in question. Screamworks is definitely one of HIM's strongest albums that really lifts the top hats off for Ville's influences.

1.5 very poor | Jared Floryan | December 4th 14 | Ville Valo mixes up accessibility and poise with white foundation on Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice, whilst the other bandmates utilize weak riffage sporting more of an oversaturated, North American feel this time around. Cheesiness is acceptable when done right, and I believe HIM aren't really using any of it to the best of whatever abilities they have, thereby offering an overall pointless album.

2.5 average | Frozenpostal | July 28th 11 | Positive: Valos vocals are as amazing as ever, and the songwriting itself is great. just as in earlier albums. The songs tend to be more catchy in this album which can go either way but on Scared to Death it was amazing. rNegative: What happened to Lindes solos? Its like a completly different guitarist is in the band. There was a space valo couldnt pull off in Lindes absence that seemed to hurt this album. Another thing is it went way to poppy. It wasnt anything compared to their other albums and is their worst to date. There best was Venus Doom in my opinion.

2.5 average | Koukla | November 26th 10 | I almost didn't want to write this review because I felt bad. This is my favorite band of all time ... the album "Venus Doom" was amazing ... but this latest album made me feel like I wanted to cry (and not those happy tears). I've heard different sounds from this band, but they've never changed drastically until "Screamworks". I waited 3 years for this to come out, and when I heard it all I could think was that HIM has sold out. The rock roots and depth seem to be gone, and although the lyrics are still very good, the music is terrible. It's like a bad pop album. Maybe the new producer is to blame, but all I know is I can no longer relate to this music. I loved the dark undertones and gloomy feel that this band used to have. "Screamworks" is trying to break through to mainstream America ... you should have stuck with what you were good at, which was making great love/rock albums. I hope that HIM's next release is more like the band I used to know.

2.5 average | Asiatic667 | April 11th 10 | Somewhat of a disappointment coming out from the other side of Dark Light, which was great, and Venus Doom, which was a mixed bag.
Valos lyrics are terrible here, and musically, Screamworks is very unadventurous, and a stepback from Venus Doom. The album has its moments in Heartkiller and Katherine Wheel, but overall, casual listeners or newcomers to HIM should steer clear

3.0 good | 45nothings | March 28th 10 | Not their best, but by no means their wost album. Full of great cheesy and catchy choruses, but that's really about it. Not as bad as people seem to say it is.
