3.0 good | Your #1 Most Loved Semiaquatic, Egg-Laying Mammal | September 13th 23 | It's a marginal improvement over Sour, but is weighed down by pretty much all the same things. The
songwriting is wildly inconsistent, with the low points being REALLY low. And there are far too
many ballads that screw with the album's flow.
But when the album hits, my goodness does it hit. She knows how to write a killer hook. Tons of
potential - hoping she can reach it someday.

3.6 great | Erwann S. STAFF | September 8th 23 | ORod continues to deliver either bomb-ass-thicc power pop punk rock guitar angst or sad piano "bedroom" pop. As her debut album, the best songs deliver the goods when it comes to their respective subgenres ("bad idea right?" for the former and "vampire" for the latter), and the "filler tunez" aren't as filler as on her debut.

4.0 excellent | cjbizzlebizzle | December 30th 23 | The award for mega celebrity status pop star of the year that releases a blockbuster album that delivers both the catchy radio hits in Apple commercials and songs with substance that music connoisseurs can enjoy award goes to Olivia Rodrigo. For the first few listens there are moments where you question the lyrics and certain themes but when you realize all of these songs are from the perspective of someone probably 17-20 years old while writing them, it makes it all that more enjoyable and authentic. Still, some of the songs (Get Him Back!) feel a bit too juvenile but this is a minor issue. Far more songs (Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl, Pretty Isn't Pretty are standouts) show maturity and are truly some of the best radio hits of the year. Honestly, for me, this feels like the 'Melodrama' of 2023 but I hope Olivia doesn't go down the 'Solar Power' road after GUTS but continues to craft an excellent mix of pop and rock songs that display her personality. A lot of people seem to hate on the ballads on the record but they add great flow between the more uptempo tracks and highlight Olivia's vocals really well. Fun and extremely catch from beginning to end.

2.5 average | Do I have somfing n my face? | December 28th 23 | without a doubt she has talent, and indeed she is the main writer to all her songs which is very rare, a variety of styles stolen straight from the original artists/producers making this by far the most diverse pop album ever, however the fact that they are obviously ripped off holds her back from really standing out

3.5 great | JuriHan | September 22nd 23 | Feels more mature than Sour did, but I can't help but feel somewhat the same as I did that record. Lot of stuff that feels bog-standard for the current pop-soundscape and she's dropped a lot of the more louder and amateurish sounding stuff I preferred on Sour. There's a lot of potential still, but I find myself hoping for further evolution and bigger risks in the future. Well-produced and she's got a great voice for what is here though.

3.5 great | ajcollins15 | September 13th 23 | There are a lot of positives to take away from the sophomore album from Olivia Rodrigo. For one she continues to grow the energetic and modern-sounding pop style that she instantiated on her debut album two years ago. There is a wide ray of genres and styles being put on display here. From the post-punk revival introduction song ?all-american bitch? to the pop punk and alt-pop rager of ?bad idea right?, and the passionate anti-build of ?vampire?. Not only that but Olivia is growing into her own unique style that she can continue to build off of into the future. Still, the more singer/songwriter tracks don?t work very well in the back half, I would rather see her continue to develop the angst punk styles she is playing with. Overall though it?s a great sophomore record that grows her brand further, which is amazing to see for gen-z pop music.
