Soen have never been the most inventive band in the world but I've always enjoyed their style of prog metal, but this album is a massive let-down. They've decided to opt for these FFDP-style choruses for god knows what reason, and it sounds really forced and does not fit their style at all. One of the most disappointing releases I've heard all year.

A rather inoffensive rock record which kinda fails to achieve being either "progressive" or "metal". It's pleasant as background music, though.

By any other band, this would be a monumental album. But given the strength of Soen?s discography, this one falls a bit less. The heavier tracks perhaps retreading too much that Imperial already accomplished, with the intricate, staccato riffing and sugary vocal Melodies. Still very good and worth several listens, and the packaging is pretty sweet.

Not a bad album, a couple of great songs and a bunch of "Okay" ones. I expected more, to be honest. "Hollowed" and "Vitals" are two standout tracks in my opinion.

What the hell happened to this band. I mean they were never going to break down barriers and push music to new realms, but I enjoyed Cognitive. Moreover I have Tellurian 4.5 and Lykaia 4.0 - they were both great albums that I still enjoy today. There was also a lot to enjoy in Lotus but by then, with no development, change or experimentation in their sound, they now sounded tired and that made Lotus a bit of a chore overall. I wasn?t surprised to then see Imperial as a complete nosedive into mediocrity. Well, Memorial has somehow managed to continue this trend and be even worse. You know it?s a warning sign when the only tracks that stand out are a cliched duet (Hollowed), standard-level Soen rockers (Incendiary). And a few more power ballads to boot (Tragedian and Vital). The first 4 tracks though really dig a grave that there?s no way out of. So bland, so unremarkable. r
