2.5 average | Antonius | October 28th 23 | Back to the Water Below does not start from where Typhoons finished. The bright, dancing euphoric beats have been replaced by the duet's traditional punchy sounds. However, there are a couple of moments where the band is stuck somewhere in between the previous release and their past ('How Many More Times', 'High Waters'), creating some confusion as to the direction they want to follow. I am not excited by the result and will be waiting for the next to come. Recommendations: 'Mountains at Midnight', 'Triggers', 'High Waters'.

3.5 great | chedspiffman | September 5th 23 | Band got lambasted for their second album sounding like their first and taking no risks. Now they get criticized for not sounding like they did previously. Tough. Although this is much closer to their first two albums than Typhoons. Riffs are still good, just not as hard.

2.5 average | Erwann S. STAFF | September 4th 23 | Royal Blood seem like they wanna shed whatever swag they had with each passing album. Stale rock that's really not that bad but it's also really nothing to write home about.

1.5 very poor | joewelkie | September 3rd 23 | I honestly have been a fan of Royal Blood's for a long time and really dug their riffs and
swagger but this album erased basically everything I was a fan of about their sound. There's
much more piano and acoustic guitar, which is not something that I would have ever wanted
from a Royal Blood record. I don't come to Royal Blood for introspection and melancholy
instrumentation. I come here to rock out with some fun riffs and heavy distortion. There
isn't a lot of that here on this record, and when it is, something seems missing. It sounds
like the bass isn't as heavy or something. Overall, I was extremely disappointed in this
record. When they released Mountains at Midnight, I was pumped because that song was an
absolute Royal Blood banger, but basically everything that follows on this album is a mid-
tempo downer. That isn't to say it's a bad record in general, but I think it's a bad Royal
Blood record. They lost their swagger, their balls, their grit.
