As a non-lyric mf, ain't surprising I find this heavily lyric-centric album only mildly enjoyable.

first listen done while walking the dog through sun dappled woodland - probably an ideal setting. This is Intricate, rnuanced, layered, subtle, experimental. The last two albums always had too much to derail my listening experience. This rone feels like it delivers on every level for what a 53 year old Polly Jean Harvey could offer me. This feels like the natural rsuccessor to White Chalk. I am actually totally shocked how much better this is than I was expecting. There were plenty rof moments when the twists and turns of the music just really caught my attention. I suspect this is only going to rimprove with every subsequent listen. I fully accept the punk angry young PJ is long gone and we have those albums to rcherish, but as a representation of her new voice and music this is spot on.

Just under 15 months after the publication of her novel-in-verse "Orlam", Harvey transposes the graven depictions of reality, poetic metre, Dorset vocabulary and naturalistic imagery of her extended poem into "I Inside the Old Year Dying".
