Westing serves the 70s revival movement in a manner that is heavily inclined towards a certain legendary quartet, Led Zeppelin. The guitar tones are warm, the melodies are sweet and the rhythms are groovy and infectious. Through the opener 'Back in the Twenties'. the message comes through loud and clear: Westing?s foundations lie in the ?70s sounds. Yet the classic rock sounds and retro ambience found in Future sounded to me mostly as a great imitation rather than a flash of inspiration. r"We wanted to hit the reset button on some things", guitarist, vocalist and keyboardist Daniel Story Rice mentioned in an interview. However, this 'reset' button surely involved anything but the music aspect of the four-piece band, previously called Slow Season. The best example is probably 'Big Trouble', a track in which the Bonham-like grooves by Cody Tarbell meet the Page-esque chords of Rice and provide a platform for his Plant-ish high-pitched howls. On a similar tone comes 'Stanley Wu' and 'Artemisia Coming Down', with the latter having a sprinkle of psychedelia in its opening before turning into a mid-tempo, blues-rock stomp and 'Nothing New' presenting some killer fuzzed-out riffery. rRecommendations: "Lost Riders", "Artemisia Coming Down", "Big Trouble", "Nothing New"

If you are familiar with Slow Season, you already know what to expect from Westing, as this band consists of 3 ex-Slow Season members. This is straight Led Zeppelin worship with solid songwriting and performance.
