| 3.0 good | ajcollins15 | January 25th 23 | For whatever reason the one record that reminds me of Ella Walker?s debut album under the name WILDES is that of the most recent Ethel Cain record. Ella presents extremely emotional and somewhat slow paced lyricism over these wistful and sometimes lush instrumentals. However were Ethel Cain out-classes Ella is in the overall execution and presentation of everything. "Preacher?s Daughter? perfectly executes the constant building into impressive apexes of both emotion and sonic ideas. ?Other Words Fail Me? is a bit bland on the instrumental front for many of the tracks and therefore the emotion kind of falls flat once you sit through the whole thing. There are strong moments like on the soft rock opener of ?Women in Love? and even on the slow burning ?Restless?. But overall, the album has a hard time holding my attention with it?s lackluster ideas and execution.
