Fucking hell. Twenty minutes of punk rock perfection - the disgruntled nerds have taken over, and their victory could not be any sweeter. You literally have nothing to lose in experiencing this essential album.

This is one of my all time favorite hardcore albums. It?s considered pop-punk by many, but there?s not a ton of melody on here, although their later projects would lean heavier on that. This is just a fast-paced, aggressive record that lasts just over 20 minutes. Although it still manages to find a way to loose steam towards the end, there are plenty of classic tracks on here. Milo sneers and growls his way through the 15 tracks, with a mix of teenage angst, humor and musings about relationships with a surprising amount of introspection, especially in regards to the ladies. There is a good mix of breakneck and mid tempo songs as well. The bass playing is standout, and acts as the lead instrument for most songs. Drumming is exciting too, and has a very powerful kick drum. Sounds great in the car. Songs are very catchy despite nothing being longer than 2.5 minutes. Standouts are Parents, I?m Not a Punk, Catalina, Marriage, Hope and the fantastic Tonyage and Bikeage.

Milo Goes to College is twenty minutes long, though I'm willing to bet a large number of hardcore fans wouldn't want it any other way. This fast-paced album is short, never hesitates to be as direct as possible, and features incredibly passionate vocals by Milo Aukerman. For every tight rhythm section on here, lyrics come undone which must be read and heard with the tongue planted firmly on that anarchistic cheek of yours. Descendents became highly influential to pop and skate punk, and they were most certainly one of the earliest groups to lay down the foundation.

The be all, end all pop punk/80's hardcore album. Know your roots kids, without this album many bands
today would not exist. From Taking Back Sunday to Blink 182 this album is the spiritual successor to
anything even remotely close to pop punk. If I could only listen to one cd for the rest of my life I would pick
this without hesitation. Its a timeless classic and my absolute favorite album of all time.

Pop-punk before it was a joke amongst music fans. Simple Plan and Good Charlotte have NOTHING on these guys. Every song is a short burst of beautiful poppy punk bliss, with sarcastic angsty teen vocals and basslines to die for. And "Bikeage" brings a tear to my eye.
