Strong 3
Warning (( This is gonna sound like I really dislike the record, but that's not the case, I do thoroughly enjoy this album from the start to finish, I just expected much more than what I've got))
I really don't know what to think about this record, It's instrumentally such an interesting record that goes through number of different moods, ideas and genres....I should love it, but I simply don't. I do enjoy it in the moment, but I will probably never get back to it, it has too many flaws that just bug me the wrong way.
The Vocalist for example sounds like he is really trying to do Dustin Kensrue Impression, while he sounds decent on the record, there is nothing memorable about his vocals, or those extremely predictable song structures on songs like ,,Ascension'' or ,,Oh charitable thief'' while those are the more interesting songs on the record and both of them have pretty solid climaxes on the end, their structure is just so predictable, and that's what bugs me about huge amount of new post-rock, it just never surprises you.
Tho' my biggest problem with this record would be my need to compare this to Thrice's more experimental works in 2007/8/9, because truly this band sounds like they took all these records and mixed them together...the Sludgy feels of Fire, the detailed and very post-rockey water and the accesible indie feel of beggars...and I just simply can't get over the fact, that this record really sounds so unimportant.
