It's almost like Billy listened to all the justified
criticisms about why CYR and Shiny were lifeless, soulless
records with no passion or identifiable Pumpkins
characteristics and said "yeah let's keep doing that".
Unequivocally, ATUM Act 1 is a straight dogshit record. There
are no hooks anywhere to be found, the production is bland
and lifeless, Billy's vocals are more jarring than ever and
mixed way too high, Jimmy Chamberlain sounds like a drum
machine (when he's actually playing), mix is terrible, the
songs are devoid of anything interesting, and it sounds 100%
like a solo record. The fact that he's considering this Part
1 of a sequel to MCIS and Machina is practically insulting
considering the lack of quality here - "Hooligan" in
particular may just be the absolute WORST SP song ever
recorded.
Seriously BC, what in the actual fuck?

irredeemably awful. Offensively terrible and devoid of any substance. A pitiful, and at times
hilariously terrible album. Completely worthless. What little shreds of quality songwriting were
present on Shiny and Monuments have now entirely left the building along with the utter dogshit
releases that are Cyr and Atum. Billy, and The Smashing Pumpkins as a whole, are officially toast.
Please just stop at this point. Or Billy, just go solo and make this crap on your own, which it
seems like you're doing anyway. Don't smear your shitty ass all over the Pumpkins name any
further. Do James and Jimmy just need money? Why are they complicit in allowing this auditory
diarrhea to enter their fans' homes???

I’ve been a huge fan of SP even through their more recent lackluster albums. Sure, some recent albums have left me
disappointed but I can usually find something good to say about them. I can’t say the same here. This is just bad. I wish
Billy would stop with the synths. Either learn how to use them or stop. It’s been annoying for the past few albums but it’s
just too much on Atum. Every synth sounds like he’s using a really bad preset. Same with the terrible reverb that is
drenching everything. It sounds like a really bad reverb preset that was equally applied to everything on the album. I
used to love how SP albums sounded like a ton of time was spent crafting the perfect tones and mix. It’s actually why I
learned how to engineer. This album sounds like Billy purposely scrolled through a bank of presets and picked all the
worst ones. Melodies: are there any? I just listened to every song and nothing stuck in my memory. It’s like Billy chose a
key for each song and then stopped there. There’s absolutely nothing here. When I heard Hooray I honestly started
wondering if this was a joke. In my car alone I said ”is this real?” out loud. Who is this for? Does Billy even like this? I feel
like I’m being trolled. It seems as though for the last handful of years Billy has written off any criticism by telling himself
that people don’t like his newer albums because they aren’t heavy enough. Maybe he should just consider that this is
actually bad.

At first, I hated this album.... I "got used" and somehow appreciate a couple of songs on this Act 1.... Steps in Time, Good in Goodbye, Hooligan and Beyond the Vale are kind of ok....rI can hardly adapt to this use of synths.....rStill.... I fell for Beguiled, and from what I've seen from live concerts, Empire and Harmmageddon look promising.rI guess I'll wait to see what's coming in Act 2 and 3.r

It's no surprise that Billy Corgan's keening, teeth-gnashing voice has made old bones. What
is a surprise is his decision to try and commit to this twinkly synth-pop that makes him
sound like a mischievous goblin gate-crashing a fairy in the dell gathering.

I?m stunned. Genuinely cannot believe how shockingly quantised and weak the production is alongside with some of Billy?s worst riffs and guitar interplay. I was skeptical about the concept, the dreadful spelling of the word ?Autumn?, the plodding, meandering nonsense that was Cyr and I am so devastated to report that all of my fears have come true. Zero grit, zero sense of urgency and thrill that made Siamese Dream and, yes, even Machina such phenomenal records. The synth pop influences is so disparate from Billy?s vocals and everything just sounds so sanitised and bland. The song ?Hooray!? may very well be Billy?s worst song yet. Jimmy Chamberlain is totally wasted on this record, so is James, so is Billy?s songwriting ability. It begs the question: why? Where is the quality control? I?ve defended the Pumpkins many times and still declare them my favourite band?up until Oh So Shiny. I?ve officially jumped the bandwagon and it crushes me to see a truly incredible band fall so hard.
