last few songs on the record feel a little lacking but there's some solid stuff here. main problems it pales compared to the old gorillaz. on its own merits tho, a mostly straight forward and well-produced pop album that isn't bloated but lacks depth.

Cracker Island is a good album but it just feels so safe and doesn't really expand upon what Gorillaz has done or provide those two to three true bangers that you expect on their great albums. I guess to add to that none of the songs are really all that exciting, the mood is pretty timid for most of the time and doesn't fluctuate like Gorillaz did so well in the past with such highs and lows. The title track and Skinny Ape are fun.

This was surprisingly alright? Not that this is pop AOTY, but the vibes are there, and that's really all I could ask for a Gorillaz album in 2023.

The Gorillaz release another Gorillaz album made by the Gorillaz, who are, in fact not, not Gorillas. It's alright.

The digital four-piece band Gorillaz continues to die harder and harder as mastermind Damon Albarn continues to evolve his longstanding style into a new age. I get it, people have not been too happy with the last few Gorillaz releases other than 2020?s ?Song Machine?, but ?Cracker Island? is actually a light and fun-sounding pop record that continues to incorporate features extremely well. People seem to have a hard time moving on that the 2000s style that Gorillaz build is just not something Damon wants to do anymore and he shouldn?t. Overall though ?Cracker Island? has some truly simple and memorable tracks on here that long-time fans might have a problem with, but if you can disconnect yourself from their past, it?s a solid record.

There are moments which are really cool but it is all drowned out in this synthpop direction that they've been working with since 2018. Not that it is inherently bad however, it lacks edge. I think the title track is the only thing that wormed itself into my head. The rest is passable and at points nice but never does enough to really make an impact.

I thought this was an overall solid, groove centric record that flows track to track with ease. I feel like the last third sort of falls flat with less memorable tracks, that aren?t bad, but a step down from the solid build up previously. Still, while not as grand as I was hoping it to be, it still felt freshly realized and hardcore Gorillaz fans won?t be disappointed.

A clear focus and sonic direction puts this above Song Machine by a considerable amount, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. As usual, the album has too many features, most of which are not crucial and add almost nothing to the tracks themselves. Skinny Ape is a fun track though.
