The perfect mix of ambient music, technique, technicality, vocals and brutality I have had the honor to sit through all year. One to listen to over and over, touching base with all emotions.

A pretty decent deathcore album. These guys clearly listen to a lot of Between the Buried and Me but still find themselves trying to dig their way out of a scene that has become oversaturated with 808's and thuper-thweet two step sections. While those elements are present on Apparition, it's much more enjoyable than most of their br00tal comrades by showing a sense of experimentation and musical aptitude. I look forward to seeing how these guys progress in the upcoming years. It's up to these guys, Veil of Maya, and Within the Ruins to keep modern deathcore interesting at this point.

Certainly a step up from Shapeshifter, but I think The Contortionist would be infinitely better if they removed the elements of deathcore and replaced it with technical death metal. The breakdowns are pretty much the only downside to their music but they use them so damn often that it's impossible to overlook. The concept of their music is original and fantastic in my opinion; mixing brutality and beauty. They just need to ditch those awful breakdowns.

Some of the instrumental work is just fantastic. What a shame. Not a fan of the vocals. Really dislike the spacey, futuristic sounds. Bands like Periphery, Tesseract, and Erra do it too and it just sounds cheesy most of the time.

I just listened to this band after checking out random sites, and I had no idea what I was gonna hear and WOW, I was impressed. This is exactly what I wanted to hear; "The Price Of Existence"-era All Shall Perish meets BTBAM melodic parts. This CD is awesome.
