Leave it to the absolute masters of spiritual cathartic occult jazz to deliver the bassiest, heaviest, most abrasive and unforgiving jazz banger album of the year.

The Comet Is Coming continues to build their nu jazz sound with more progressive electronic and British dance music influence that really creates an intricate and dense listening experience. The saxophone all over this album will have your mind spinning and that?s all I could ever ask for when it comes to modern jazz. I still think their style of jazz can be one-dimensional at times and not all the tracks here feel as flushed out as others. Still a really solid outing from the trio.

The Comet Is Coming's last output (shit), Hyper-Dimensional Expansion Beam (ok nerdz) decides to build its rhythmic foundations with electronic linings, which coincides with the band choosing to go as hard as they can go. Some of the subtlety and delicacy they've previously shown is now gone to the benefit of apocalyptic energy. Also, it does show that these tunes are improvised, as they do not feel as rewarding in the long run as some of their best cuts (eg "Summon the Fire").
