Paw's 1993 debut album Dragline, is a raw, heavy, and emotional record that blends metallic intensity and punk-like outbursts. It is often considered to be one of the great lost masterpieces of early ?90s alternative rock. Paw never managed to reach a wider audience, but none of the reasons why relate to the quality of the music or the passion with which Dragline was delivered. There is a distinctly ?southern? feel in this and the band's sound is open and expansive. With massive guitar tones, thunderous drum sounds, thudding agile bass, and powerful vocals, Dragline tells vivid, Midwestern-inspired stories that touch on heartbreak, alcoholism, lust, and nostalgia. Mark Hennessy delivers a gritty, impassioned vocal performance and writes about simple, everyday things in a breathtakingly poetic and sophisticated prose. While it was overshadowed by the massive Seattle acts of the time, it stands proudly as a timeless, aggressive, and highly emotive piece of '90s alternative rock.
