My review of every Alex G record other than Rocket is "I like the songs where he sings pretty and/or screams and I don't like the ones where he pitch shifts his voice and talks about drug addiction"

While not his most immediate album, God Save The Animals stands as perhaps Alex G's most cohesive effort to date. The singles were all big highlights and they sound even better within the context of the album. Despite a couple oddball choices, the connective tissue here is strong and gives us a more vulnerable-sounding Alex G. One of his ~prettiest~ and most life-affirming records.

God Save the Animals is, in a way, typical Alex G and his folktronica antics. Yet, as always, he finds new ways to tweak his formula: cloud rap and hyperpop make apparitions that do not diminish the melancholic aspect of his folkiness. Not my fav G record, but the one where he cohesively gathers all his different styles.
