I just stood up for myself and hit my dad back it's so heavy
EDIT: this one's definitely a grower and more obtuse than their last 3, which is not a bad
thing.

The hype is real. I can't think of many bands with no original members and 2 decades into their rcareer releasing some of their strongest material. rEdit: So far this is fantastic, it's a nice combination of the experimental parts of Polar Similar rcombined with the ferocity of All HailrEdit 2: Unfortunately this doesn't seem to have the lasting power of the last 3 albums but still a great listen nonetheless.

The whole record feels extremly samey: Slower or noisy start - breakdowns - slow down again - breakdowns; and don't forget to scream like someone who just broke a finger. Repeat. Generally, I don't like metalcore and this record couldn't brake the ice either.

One of, if not the, most consistent metalcore bands (only rivalled by ETID) drop another rdemolishing release that feels fresh yet familiarly NJ. At the moment I still prefer All Hail, but rthat might change with repeat listens. There's a lot of interesting choices going on in the rproduction that might take some time to properly digest. Get ready for a pummeling when this drops ron the 12th.

probably just a hater cuz I don't like metalcore, but a lot of these songs just feel like the same pattern where they start clean, hit hard, and stay hard and then go into a catchy chorus before slowing it down for a breakdown. It all feels a little formulaic to me

Norma Jean continue their path towards alt metal and post-hardcore territories, yet they retain all of their grittiness. Nevertheless, the record's in-yo-face nature, coupled with the tracks' relative homogeneity, make this quite indecipherable at first glance despite the record's overall solidness. 3.2

The individual songs kick so much ass, but there's something about the album's flow that just feels sort of...off? I don't know. I think there's a little too much filler/padding and some of the tonal shifts are a bit jarring.
