the atmosphere doesn't gel with the songwriting and there's phrases that practically sound like Kings of Leon, agh, plenty of better goth this year where you can hear the bass

The boys are back on form here, this is about all I can ask for from a very 80s gothic rock/darkwave heavy post-punk album in 2022. It doesn't do anything new but the sound/songwriting/riffs/melodies are all pretty much on point. Not quite as memorable or varied in the songwriting department as that debut but it does what it's intended to do.

Preoccupation - you know what you'll get! It's bass-led, gothic-infused, darkwave-influenced post-punk that doesn't revolutionize everything but does its shtick well.
