A good summary of the band's status in 1987: noise rock, shouted vocals, rapid bass, Roland the drum machine, and tongue-in-cheeks lines. Cool stuff, although it does not accomplish much the band hasn't done before. But the songs are so cool!

Great Music,Godawful Album Cover,luckily the version rereleased together with the Heartbeat 7'' had a photo of what it was supposed to represent instead of a cheesy drawing

While Headache is in no way bad, it's easily the least exciting thing Big Black put out while they were a functioning band (Lungs doesn't count, Albini made it by himself). But, that doesn't mean this is completely mindless noise rock, everything here is performed quite well, written quite well, has creepy atmosphere, and some musicality to it. The problem lies in the sameness factor; haven't we heard most of this before? Now sure, the distorted vocals are new and some of the rhythmic approaches are a bit new, but the overall feeling is a little bit stale at this point in their career. Either way though, this is actually a slightly more than solid EP from Big Black. But, it's also their most uninteresting.

I really like the track Grinder, but I don't care too much for the experience as a whole. Albini's done better.
