Really great, horrific industrial sludgey music with some vocals and lyrical sections that absolutely hit but others that are a bit hard to take seriously and/or they become overly grating. Just a bit more time for the music to show and develop would go a long way. Still an awesome listen the first couple times but gets a bit tiring on repeat, but maybe that's part of the point? WHY

It’s fitting that such a fucked-up place as the Oklahoma City Jail (look it up if you wanna go down a shitty rabbit
hole) would be on the cover of such a fucked-up album. I’ve always liked local dudes Chat Pile, but never loved
them except for ‘Roots Bloody Roots’. This album changed that. It rips, it’s intense, and all of you need to buy
and stream it.

starts off actually pretty decently, some nice phrasing and interesting chording used in the first few songs, with appealing enough rhythms and backbeats that i can look past the somewhat lame vocals, but then it turns into really repetitive generic sludgy noise rock, and the already subpar vocals become even worse since the accompanying music is so boring. the worst offender wrt the repetition is the last track, where it repeats that same crescendo trick over and over again for way too long. such intense/heavy music isn't really interesting if theres no variation (besides some crescendos here and there) or interesting backbeats, phrasing, tempo changes, chording, etc to begin with, cuz heaviness is a RELATIVE thing, and when you just do that same base heaviness over and over again it'll get boring very quickly. also even tho they do fit aesthetically the whole mark e. smith-esque almost spoken delivery and screaming is thoroughly tiring, he doesn't really have any interesting cadence or timbre whatsoever, id honestly just prefer some regular harsh vocals or something over what he's doing here. unfortunately comes closer to swans than jesus lizard or fear factory in quality. not recommendedr

Damn, this was filthy and very uneasy to listen to: I like it! No fillers, just the vortex of noisy rock with punchy industrial/sludge metal(?) and shockingly audible lyrical content.

With heavy, noisy industrial rock, Chat Pile sounds like the dirty baby conceived by Jesus Lizard and Godflesh. The bleak and visceral attitude oozing from these guys can feel a bit exhausting by the end - maybe some calmer, more atmospheric tracks would have heightened the contrast and made the heavier sections hit even harder. Still, as it stands, God's Country remains a punishing and cathartic experience from start to finish.

So this sounds as if Kurt Cobain rose from the grave, and on the way he had a blast with a young Nick Cave, on the way they got slapped by Henry Rollins, and in total desperation they called in Justin Broadrick and Godflesh rhythms for help, just to create a bleak, gloomy, rebellious, misanthropic and somewhat adolescent noise rock sludge album... suitable for lonely hearts and souls... definitely a very interesting record that has a decent chance to break through, especially in America.

The anger of this record at the state of the world and, specifically, the U.S.A., is palpable. 'Why' is one of the most infuriating songs I've heard in a long while. While there is nothing "new" in this record, it's an incredibly well-written and thought provoking record.

Vocalist is fucking incredible. Deranged, and tortured every word seems to cut. Not everyone can make ?have you ever had ringworm? sound menacing. Spoken word passages are engaging. The only content this year that genuinely scared or disgusted me. Bass work is fundamental to the albums sound, sludgey attacks and even nu metal ish grooves. Really cool Guitar effects that sound like wailing wind in some tracks. Violent and rebellious album that paints a picture of real world dystopian circumstance. 8.5/10

The debut album from the Oklahoma-based band is one of the strongest metal album debuts that I have heard in a long time. The diverse set of genres and styles all come together to create a grimy, intense, noisy, and chaotic listen. Take the opening track with its loud and blistering guitar leads over some classic sludge screams and howls. Or take the post punk shoegaze guitar riffs on ?Pamela? and sudo-talked vocals. On top of all that we also get some pretty intense and harrowing lyrics that slowly showcase someone diving deeper and deeper into their depression until an attempted suicide on the 9-minute slogfest of a closer. If you like those classic sludge metal sounds of Acid Bath with guitar work and production from Jesus Lizard then you will find yourself at home with this record. My biggest complaint is that ?I Don?t Care If I Burn? is an awkward spoken word and experimental piece that does not exactly translate to this record all that well.
