In my concept this is Arcturus's magnum opus. This is also probably my favorite keyboard driven album, because the keyboards here are just beyond brilliant. Another aspect I love about this album is Rygg's vocal work, and the contribution made by Ihsahn in Radical Cut. The record has a futuristic vibe and atmosphere, and HellHammer's drumming is tight and consistent, a very high point too. Wonderful release from start to finish.

I have never been a huge fan of Black metal, but this album has changed my opinion entirely. Arcturus is an avant-garde black metal band that, on The Sham Mirrors, uses odd sounds, brilliant piano riffs and passages, and other things of that nature that really captured my attention throughout every track. This is certainly one of the strangest and most gripping albums I have ever heard in my life and besides a good amount of awkward vocal moments, it is perfect. There are barely any bland spots on this album. Any fan of Progressive metal or Black Metal should take a listen to the Sham Mirrors.

This album is awesome, especially the instrumentals. High props to the drumming being INSANE on this album. Figured I'd have to listen to death metal albums to hear this kind of mastery. Hope to own this metal album in the near future!

This album is perfect... until Ilsahn appears. The final two tracks are just blurs to me - nothing from them really stands out, and aren't on the same level as the previous five tracks. From track one to five, Trickster G. Rex puts on such a show with melodies that are out of this world. The music perfectly supports his vocals and are well capable of holding my attention with their exoticness.
