Impressive work, finally some good wild avant-garde. However, it was a bit too hardcore-ish for me sometimes, the vocals felt out of place at certain moments (like in "Apathy as Arsenic Lethargy as Lead") and the mix is a bit strange... I mean, it doesn't feel that "full". Also: for anyone how enjoyed this, please give a go to Dodheimsgard's A Umbra Omega from 2015. That's the hot stuff. (Btw, these guys definitely have learned a thing or two from DHG, that's for sure.)

A dream come true. The best black metal album I've heard in years. Subsequent listens have only been more and more rewarding, as this album is full of complexity and good intent.

Now that's an original artistic proposition. Sax and violin that are whimsically integrated into an avant-disso-extreme aesthetic? Big yes. A voice that treads the line between pissed mf and despaired leftist? Big yes. Factor in mega climaxes, harrowing arrangements, and constant grooviness despite the infernal soundscape, and you've definitely got one of the most interesting 2022 releases.

Another avant-garde gem, this time from Scotland, and quite a different affair from, for example, Imperial Triumphant, although some common features would be found. However, this recording is excellently colored by violins in the basic composition of the band, which gives it a special ethnic and flavor, the jazz one is evoked by the use of saxophone for a change, in addition there are also female vocals, choirs (track 4 is of an operatic nature) and piano.
The vocals are more spoken and sung than shouted, no growling here, overall it's more progressive metal than dissonant death metal. Great last melancholic post-metal influenced track to end the album. A remarkable piece of art.
