Silvechair's debut album may have resemblances with bands like Pearl Jam (check 'Cicada', 'Tomorrow') and Soundgarden ('Pure Massacre', 'Leave Me Out') but I am not sure if anyone can be truly original when they're 15. The Aussies are not regarded as a 'grunge' band but Frogstomp is definitely one of those albums who helped lay the groundwork for the post-grunge era. It is thick and gritty, it has sludgy guitar riffs, a metal edge and dark undertones. With less fuzz and more regular time signatures, it has the aggression and the moodiness to showcase the band's potential. Recommendations: "Pure Massacre", "Tomorrow", "Israel's Son", "Suicidal Dream".

A rather remarkable debut by Australia's Silverchair simply because its members were teenagers at the time of its release. Obvious influence includes Nirvana however the band does just enough to maintain its niche in the saturated post grunge era. Imagine a teenage Daniel Johns performing Suicidal Dream in current times - it would land him an intervention rather than a record deal.

At 3 in the morning on a random Wednesday, I admit to video chatting with strangers on Omegle, strictly due to my banning from Chatroullete. I happened to come across this broad from Australia, and I immediately asked if she knew of the band Silverchair. Her face lit up with excitement, but then she “nexted” me as I took my shirt off. Regardless, at 15 years of age, the Australian trio deliver a promising debut in Frogstomp filled with some hard rock some of you might just consider “grunge.” Though often criticized for copying the ever so popular Seattle sound, as well as lyrics that were clearly written by 15 year olds, Frogstomp remains one of the most successful albums from any Australian rock band. Some lyrics are rather lame, such as in “Suicidal Dream”, with “people making fun of me, for no reason but jealously.” A common phrase for the teen angst era, but the majority of lyrics from the album really showed the immaturity of the group. But honestly, what do you expect from 15 year olds, other than acne, awkward boners, and puking after one shot of Majorksa. “Tomorrow” is arguably the best single from any post-grunge band, and it gave Silverchair its fame, and rightfully so. Silverchair has progressed to a more matured, orchestral pop-like sound, but Frogstomp sure made a lasting statement on the post grunge era, and watching old videos of lead singer Daniel Johns wail awkward lyrics at age 15 is a thing of beauty.

I was obsessed with this cd in high school, really incredible album and it holds a nostalgic place in my music library. Check it out if you haven't before and like grunge.

Post grunge classic. Their best album. I hate the direction the band took in later albums, but this one is way more consistant, and the more grunge oriented of all their works. It is too bad the band is reluctant to play songs off this album anymore in concerts.

Couldn't get a better debut. Tommorow was already well known and Pure Massacre Blew me away.Faultline was outstanding but i don't see why Dan had to write a song titled Suicidal Dream. Great Album Highly Reccommend it for grunge fans and new Silverchair fans should hear this for sure.
