| 5.0 classic | North0House2 | April 8th 22 | Best I?ve heard Woods in years. This is everything I hoped for and more. I could see it hitting a 5 over time.
Edit: I didn’t need to wait. It’s the best album I’ve heard this year. Already on the third spin and it just gets better.
Absolutely top shelf stuff. Not only is Woods at the best I’ve heard him, but Preservation completely killed the
production here. It’s wonderful.

| 4.5 superb | imyourzer0 | August 5th 22 | Only Billy Woods can create a contemplative hip hop record that has pure bangers in the form of commentaries about the effects of imperialism and capitalism that sounds like the instrumentation was out of the 1800s. Dusty guitars, wheezing harmonicas, and derelict pianos sound like this mysterious and slow paced effort of rebellion was recorded in the backwoods (get it) shed in the rural bayous of Louisiana . 9/10

| 5.0 classic | finanime2022 | May 22nd 22 | I can see this becoming a 5 honestly. These instrumentals are unforgettable and unique as all hell. My first few spins I simply felt a little unnerved by the experience, but soon found that I couldn't get songs like Asylum, Wharves, NYNEX, and Remoseless out of my head. oh yeah, and I also couldn't get every other song out of my head either. Lyricism so dense and evocative that I'm still puzzling out what some of it means, but I think the impression that each song is supposed to give is clear. Billy Woods is a master of his craft.

| 4.0 excellent | jmh886 | April 9th 22 | it's a 4 right now, but as every woods grows on me i'm preemptively bumping the rating. typical dark and dense woods, maybe even more so than anything he's done yet.

| 5.0 classic | Braeckderm | April 8th 22 | Great album! It's a little bit more experimental than some other stuff I know by Billy Woods but it works for me.

| 5.0 classic | valrus | March 10th 24 | My first woods album and still my favorite. woods covers so much ground (and sea) here and ties it all together (helped along by Preservation's fantastically moody beats and/or lack thereof) in such a compelling way. Lots of heavy topics but never didactic or overbearing. Man. This album is so good.

| 4.0 excellent | cjbizzlebizzle | September 11th 22 | Atheiopes wastes no time establishing one of the best atmospheres on a hip hop record of recent memory. 'Asylum' opens with guitar which is joined by piano, live bass and eventually a sax and these instruments are used throughout the album to create a creepy, anxious mood that perfectly compliments Billy Woods' direct rap approach. Beautifully produced instrumentation and this one is a treat to listen to on your expensive headphones. The album evokes imagery and it feels like you are trapped in a dusty dive full of worn wooden fixtures located adjacent to a creepy swamp. It is hard to find a weak track on the album but perhaps the almost complete lack of strong percussion leads to slight exhaustion by the end of the record but this is only a minor complaint. Props to 'No Hard Feelings' and 'Remorseless' where Billy raps over nothing but minimal flutes and horns. In retrospect 2022 feels like one of the best years of hip hop in a long time and this was just part of the first major wave oif the season.

| 3.8 excellent | Erwann S. EMERITUS | April 26th 22 | I'm like Asleep: every time I listen to Billy Woods, I'm left puzzled as I can tell I like what I've heard, but I struggle explaining in detail why I like it. Let's go for the usual: intricate lyricism, varied flows, and hypnotizing beats are very nice to listen to.

| 4.5 superb | CrisStyles | April 8th 22 | Billy Woods' incredible run continues. Between his last couple of albums as part of Armand Hammer, Brass with Moor Mother, Hiding Places and now this album, he's been sky-rocketing up my favorite hip-hop artists list.
