2.0 poor | ajcollins15 | April 16th 22 | I feel bad for Vince Staples because I feel he does really know what he wants his sound to be. It?s tough when you make experimental hip-hop and electronic crossover masterclass in ?Big Fish Theory?, with one of the most renowned pop innovators, Sophi (RIP). 2018?s ?FM!? was a solid album because it was a bouncy and fun 22-minute project and even last year's self-titled album wasn?t terrible because again it had no fillers. Now we see him doing the same sound again but with a full 40-minutes of material and this album really has a hard time diversifying itself from others like it. Sure the lyrics are emotionally potent at times, but everything really starts to bleed together and I get ear fatigue after 10-minutes. Also, some of Vince's laziest songs come on here like ?DJ Quik?. Vince really needs a change of direction since he is slowly driving his career down the drain if he keeps coming out with stuff like this.

2.5 average | chilledpunkrock | April 11th 22 | I'm really not feeling this lowkey wave Vince has been on lately. It's not like I don't think he could do quieter or less hype songs well, it's that he's bringing absolutely no energy to almost all of these songs. And when he doesn't have the energy, he frankly sounds really annoying with a super creaky voice that feels like it's right in my ear. He's not going crazy like he did on his old stuff on tracks like LEMONADE or MAGIC, but it sounds like he wants to be there compared to the flat, bored sound on SLIDE or EAST POINT PRAYER.

3.2 good | Erwann S. STAFF | December 22nd 22 | Staples is staplin' hard by going for a bouncy West Coast aesthetic he doesn't push enough. It's actually when he tries to do more touching territories that he's at his most convincing.

3.5 great | rufinthefury | May 10th 22 | Vince's best project since Big Fish Theory. Continuing off of the sound he started with Self-Titled and FM, but now with actual good beats instead of Kenny Beats. Vince's lyricism hasn't slipped at all, his hooks are catchier than ever, and the melancholic west-coast beats are just perfect for what he's doing.rBest songs: DJ Quik, Magic, Mama's Boy, Rose Street
