Shaves off 20 minutes and 6 songs from the debut, and is all the better for it. Greg's narrowing in on a potential opus, bit by bit.

Wasted potential of one of the kind voice, I guess. This is the normiest, edgiest and laziest
material from Greg. Kinda disappointed and yeah eye-ish thing on the cover.

Greg dives further into 90s alt metal and grunge, while still retaining (some of) that darkwave vibe. This is nevertheless more accessible, toning down on the experimental weirder elements. It's not always for the best: while the man sure got the pipes to carry anything, the material simply isn't as enthralling as his debut. Still great shi obvs, sometimes we just wanna compare stuff.

As much as I loved Child Soldier: Creator of
God, this record is far from how ambitious
and breathtaking that record was. The first
half feels quite generic, only carried by
Puciato's fantastic vocals, but the last four
tracks are honestly fantastic, and lend
themselves well to Puciato's style. However,
the last four tracks don't seem to reach the
highs that Creator of God did, and the
rest of the record goes well past the lows of
Creator of God In short, it should've
been a 4-track EP. Oh well.

Honestly, I am pretty disappointed with this new Greg Puciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan, album. His debut solo album two years ago was a really enticing and intense darkwave album that felt like a fusion of the 90s alternative metal scene with the more modern darkwave scene seen. However, on his sophomore outing, he delves deeper into the alternative rock and metal scene and ditches those rich darkwave and shoegaze vibes that I loved so much. If it wasn?t for the banger of a track ?Lowered? this album probably would be much lower, but that single alone is something to return to.

Its been great to see Greg grow and carve out his own path post Dillinger. Mirror Cell is a more focused and streamlined experience and is a perfect length in comparison to Child Soldier's 15 tracks

This is what I wanted Child Soldier to be. Whereas that album sounded like 3-4 EP's on shuffle, this is a concise and focused distillation of all the genre's Greg's voice sounds best over. He really benefitted from bringing Steve Evetts on for this.
