3.5 great | Erwann S. STAFF | May 25th 22 | Palaces is basically Flume trying to put the sound design experimentationz he did on his 2019 mixtape Hi, This is Flume into the poppier, features-full format of his preceding albums. It thus ends up having, as we say in French, "your ass between two chairs", as the will to navigate between big bangers and deconstruction of bass music often lands as half steps rather than cohesive blends - "Only Fans" being the biggest offender. The best tracks are the ones that decide to go for one aesthetic and stick to it. Still, even the half-assed tunes (not "Only Fans"!!!) manage to please me because solipsism is a bitch.

3.5 great | ajcollins15 | May 24th 22 | The much anticipated new album from the Australian electronic producer Flume, after his huge breakout mixtape ?Hi This Is Flume? in 2019, is a worthy addition to the artist's catalog, but overall is a bit sloppy in its execution because of how all-over-the-place many of the tracks feel and how un-cohesive everything feels. Overall it?s a solid album with a lot of different sounds and styles, but for those who loved that mixtape, this might be a bit of a tough listen because he does return more to what Flume has always been known for.
