Hair-raising and petrifying screams combine with a violin that feels as much as a backing instrument as it does a story teller. Not really the combination that comes to mind when thinking of Screamo and post-hardcore but one that foxtails absolutely nails on 'fawn'. The violin adds an element of suspense you don't normally associate with short format screamo tracks and the vocals provide all of the intensity you will ever need. Really consistent from beginning to end but the buildup of the first minute of 'gazelle' that ends in a truly bonecrushing conclusion of growls and blastbeats might be the ultimate highlight of 'fawn', for me.

Celtic screamo? The violin sure makes me think of ol' Brittany - yay! This aesthetic works well with screamo, even the screamo parts per se do not sound that impressive to me. Aesthetically, big yes; not fully convinced this is their magnum opus given the potential.

Although I can see the full appeal of this new foxtails record since it brings together the charm and nuance of chamber music with the harsh and aggression of screamo to create a detailed and delicate new fusion. However, if you recall last year the new LOREM IPSUM record which was in many ways the same idea but took it even further with no electric guitar or drums (full chamber and folk instrumentation), then it's hard to look at this foxtails record in the same light. The overall execution and ideas are there, but I wish they did more, and I wish it wasn?t so one-dimensional.
