As a first impression? Soul Glo might be one of the most original, fun, and topical bands in hardcore right now. This is a punishing display of aggression, that displays a willingness to think outside the box.

hm. not sure how to feel about this one. seems like they've dropped the pv/skramz influence + rexperimentation from earlier releases for just really run-of-the-mill hxc punk. which, yeno, is rcool man it doesn't sound bad, but for me it's just lost all the things i loved about their sound rand what made them unique and traded it for something done a million times before idk. even the rrap bits here just seemed hella bland and lacking.ri could just be not in the right head space. 3 for now but i really wanna 2.5 it

Hardcore punk really has not had much of a presence in the last 25, 30, or even 35-40 years. The boldest artists of the 70s and 80s left the sound on a high podium that made it nearly impossible for bands to expand upon the sound and innovate. I believe it?s why post-punk really blew up because hardcore punk is tough to change because of how ?elitist? and simple its sound is. Well in comes the Philadelphia-based band which they have slowly accumulated into one of the best new hardcore punks acts in ages. Their fourth album ?Diaspora Problems? is a heavy, hard-hitting, and most importantly unique sound of hip hop, punk, and noise. Somehow the band makes this style sound so good even though their tracks are 3 to 4 minutes in length. A really great listen that anyone should take a listen to. My best comparison is kind of what Jeff Rosenstock has done to the pop-punk and power pop genres in the last few years (and I guess ska for that matter).

Blistering hardcore tracks and some really good rap songs make for a mix I am not sure I have ever really come across that is executed so well. Sort of on the border of a 3.5 and a 4 for me but in the end "Spiritual Level of Gang Shit" is a top contender for the song of the year and also unlike any other song I have ever heard before, ever. So huge props for that.

The rage and unfiltered energy this album releases is some of the best hardcore punk you'll ever hear. Everything is just at 11 the entire time. And the splashes of jazz and hip hop while making the whole thing feel consistent and cohesive? Crazy props to these guys. Great record.

This came out on the same day as MGK's album.... that one is obviously the better punk album. 4.7/5 Favs: Gold Chain Punk (whogonbeatmyass?), Coming Correct Is Cheaper, Thumbsucker, Fucked Up If True, Jump!! Incredibly energetic and visceral hardcore punk with harshed rapping and influences from screamo, noise rock, and 80s punk. A prime example of the constantly-evolving hardcore scene, SOUL GLO also shows - it kinda was necessary - hardcore ain't only a white boiz thing. Mucho dope shit.

Probably this is the state-of-the-art in the hardcore genre. I am happy that they didn't overdose the rap parts and that you still find spoken word parts in their vocals. The vocals are best this way. This is The Blood Brothers 2.0. Great variety and high energy in this band.
