Well...I'm a huge Dio fan however this record is in my opinion one of Ronnie''s worst albums. Boring songs with a serious lack of inspiration. The next record is definitely better.

There are many better doom metal albums out there than this. It is a decent effort, and a step up from the two previous albums, but its average compared to other bands in the same niche.

Dio's return to form, after two really subpar albums in Angry Machines and Strange Highways. Apart from the better lineup marked by the change of Tracy G with Craig Goldy and the return of the underrated Jimmy Bain, Magica is more ambitious and epic than previous Dio offerings. Being part of a trilogy, Dio's intention was to release the second and third part of this one but he ascended to Valhalla before he started working on them.

MAGICA was a very promising step in the right direction at the time of its release. As much
as I admire the hard work that went into making this album, it inevitably falls a bit short of
excellence when the musical content is appraised. It is no HEAVEN AND HELL or even HOLY
DIVER. There simply aren't enough great songs here for MAGICA to be even compared to his
finest work. Nevertheless, it was an interesting and praiseworthy experiment.
