See that cover? This is the same Flaming Lips, with that same childlike wonder at the limits of rock (argument: there aren't any), but hairier. Quite unshaven. Being re-birthed out of a vagina of light, all thrilled, ravaged, insane, and deeply, affectionately human. Party like it's 2009.

I'm basically in love with this album, and just about everything on it. I personally feel The Flaming Lips have never done better, and I'm hard pressed to think they will ever do better again. This is easily the best $8 I've ever spent. I think this is what music should be; an album that builds on itself and gives you a full sonic experience. The gorgeous melodies, the booming distorted bass, the thundering, yet somewhat subtle drums, the spacey keyboard interludes all interweave to create something I've never even come close to hearing. The Lips have made some astoundingly good music in the past and that is what fascinates me about this album is how ridiculously good it is, considering their very strong discography prior to this. I can't recommend this enough to everyone out there, even though I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. An album in every sense of the word, and a throw back to the Pink Floyd structured albums of the 70's.

This is, in my humble opinion, one of the most underrated albums of the last decade. It's step in an ambicious direction for the Lips and, for me, it paid off, expanding their usual sound in every way and representing a rebirth of modern psycodelia.

stupid indie nonsense with no structure and no good melodies and the production will hurt your ears especially the horrible drum sound only 2 or 3 songs stood out as being even remotely good one of the most overrated and horrible releases i have heard in 2009

SPEAKING of returning to the weird, The Flaming Lips did. in a BIG way. this double-album will seriously piss off fans who expected them to continue down the path of the pop (as they were slowly beginning to do the last couple albums) but for me....well its just about the best album they've ever put out. this album is weird as hell, but holy shit is it good. 60's Psychedelia is back in style and The Flaming Lips are paving the road in new directions. it's also hard not to mention their incredible live show when talking about them. so ill reduce it to this string-of-words sentence: space-bubble dancing-animals confetti-cannons birthed-band-members. yeeeah. well anyways this album is incredible. LONG LIVE THE WEIRD!!

Good record, but its lacks direction. Some fun tunes. Some regular tunes. Some pretty awesome tunes. But like most flaming lips albums, instead of being a cohesive statement, it's just bunch of flaming lips songs put on an lp.

Once again The Flaming Lips reinvent themselves. 'Forget Clouds taste metallic', forget 'Yoshimi', The Flips are taking things to a whole new place. Much darker then anywhere they have gone before. From full on Freak outs like Scorpio Sword, To fragile ballads like Evil. Don't let the double album thing scare you either. This album is an easily manageable 70 or so minutes.while not exactly a short album its not quite the monolith Wayne Coyne hyped it up to be. My only real complaint with this album is that the way its mixed, even though the more raw recording style does wonders for this album. It can be downright overwhelming to listen to parts of some songs.
This is an excellent sonic left turn from the Flips, and a sound I hope to see them toy with and perfect in the future.
