God Hates Us All is a very average album from a not so average band. As a whole, the songs aren't bad at all, but they are somewhat generic sounding, which is a shame, because Slayer is much more than just a generic metal band. God Hates Us All reaches its apex very early in the album, with "Disciple", with no song really even coming close to it until "Exile". For the most part, this album is fairly consistent all the way through, but at the same time it moves pretty slow.

More nu metal inspired Slayer. I would say that it's only slightly better than Diabolus In Musica, if only because I like Disciple (Man, I love that unexpected outro) and Payback. But two decent songs don't elevate the record above overall dreck level. Good thing they snapped out of this with Christ Illusion and the excellent World Painted Blood.

While "Disciple" and "Bloodline" are both great songs, the album's concept grows rather thin, with many forgettable and uninspired songs.

Out of all of the Slayer albums, this is the most mainstream that I have heard. Some of the songs seem to be tailored just for radio play. Although this is not a bad thing, as shown on 'Bloodline', the formula eventually begins to wear thin. The instruments, as usual are excellent with some great drumming on 'War Zone'. The singing has become slower and more melodic, which suits the slower style of the music.

God Hates Us All achieves what Diabolus In Musica tried to do: effectively blend groove/nu-metal with thrash, and this time, the thrash is more prevalent. "Disciple," "Threshold," New Faith," "Exile," and "Payback" all effectively display their grooves under thrashy riffs and tempos and show the band in top form for the time. Unfortunately, there's still too much filler and length here to keep it from ranking with their better releases. Sits around a 3 and a 3.5.

GHUA is nothing like 1990's Seasons in the Abyss or 1986's Reign in blood. Too much random cursing, too grungy, and Tom's screaming can get annoying. If you are very religious, DO NOT listen to this album.
