Messy. Bad tastePost-irony was always integral to 100 Gecs' proposition. Yet 10000 Gecs seems to make itself a triumph in pushing this bad taste to its paroxysm. This spirit filled with unfathomable nihilism defeats itself when it doesn't accept any limits - here, the band conjures so many different things at once that it becomes indigestible. That could be the band's ultimate shortcoming: they have yet to understand that setting boundaries to your schemes does not necessarily mean curbing your potential. Beyond that, some of the band's influences are not conveyed as well as others: the ska parts often sound like studio scraps from a band whose sobriety is now a distant memory, which is no small feat when you know the duo's taste for cheap aesthetics. rSome tracks confirm the band's talent to write bangers invoking various aesthetics ("Hollywood Baby", "757", "mememe"). However, the duo's songs are still plagued with these hints of unrefined teenage taste that prove they must properly ingest their influences. One day, mayhaps. Meanwhile, those considering this brash concoction as peak goofy maximalism can continue lauding 100 Gecs.

Got to give the hyperpop sensation 100 gecs a lot of credit for being the closest to making hyperpop and rock/punk music sounds okay together. The alternative rock feel of ?757? and the ska punk style of ?Frog on the Floor? are really things I didn?t expect. But there are also a lot of huge miss steps on other tracks that I really wish I could un-hear. But still, the duo makes some of the most experimental pop music out there and they will always hold a special place in my heart.

Four year wait for twenty seven minutes of them dropping most of the forward-thinking pop and EDM production in favour of doubling down on tongue in cheek pop-punk, ska, nu-metal and crunk?but none of it sounds like they?re having much fun any more.

Having never touched a 100 Gecs project this was pretty shocking to say the least. Once overstimulation subsided I realized.. hey this is pretty fuckin good! The 27 minutes feels breezy, not a second too short or long. The production is fantastic, blending in a metric ton of bizarre samples elevated by the equally as strange compositions. 'The Most Wanted Person...' sounds like a cartoon breakdown as the wacky sound effects contrast with the relatively dark subjects. It works even? Even the more off the wall tracks like 'Billy Knows Jane' (with its brutal outro) and 'One Million Dollar's work in spite of their purposely unrefined presentation. Absolute peak highlight is 'Doritos & Fritos' with its pumping drum beat, glitchy riff and general pop punk delivery. The whole package comes together nicely. If this is Zoomer music, then we're in good hands.
