I see this album as more of a throwback to their first two albums, albeit with a far more delicate touch. It's a bit strange comparing it to their last three, because those albums are all pretty wide in scope. This can't be better than something like Fantastic Planet, which is nearly twice as long and of a similar quality throughout. But this is a subtle change in direction that comes across more in the pace of the music than the stylings or overall sounds. It's exciting to have a Failure album that feels more brisk, urgent, and rawly melancholic. This is such a mature release that adds something genuinely new to their discography. I can't ask for much more. About half the album sticks out as being among their best (Long Division made me feel like I was listening to Disintegration!) and there isn't a bad track whatsoever.

I very much dig the more subdued, melancholic
feel that is prevalent throughout this whole
album. It is/was very much a grower for me
though.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the album on my
first listen, there were no "standout" tracks
for me, which made it slightly difficult to
connect with the record as much as their
previous ones. However, upon further listens I
was able to connect with most of the tracklist
very well. Bad Translation, Long Division, and
Water With Hands are particular standouts for
me as of now.
Overall, I love the direction Failure has taken
with their sound and the vibe of this album.

Excellent album. It is growing on me with each listen. I think "Undecided" is one of the best
songs Failure has ever done..

Remains to be seen just how much this will grow on me, but I can already say that once again
Failure delivers some quality, sonically pleasing, masterfully produced alternative rock.
One of the best to ever do it in the genre.

On first listen, have to agree with Scornfyre. Happy they're doing their own thing and yet it's still definitely Failureredit: played it twice now, it's good stuff but seems a bit short, I can see it's 20 minutes shorter than In The Future. Seems to have fewer highlights too but definitely not a bad effort. A high 3.5 for me now

On the first spin I wasn't feeling this one as strongly as their previous efforts. "Headstand" and "Long Division" stood out immediately but not much else did. Having delved into it more it didn't take long for the rest of the album to find its grip.
In hindsight "Fantastic Planet" was the same way for me. Definitely a grower, not a shower. Magnified and their first two reunion albums hit me immediately so it was easy to forget that.
Yeah this is solid Failure once again.
