I see this ultimately becoming a companion piece to Time Will Die, but it stands out on its own as well and makes evolutionary sense. However it will also gut you like an emotional fish. Band is possibly on their way to being a top 10 overall metal band for me personally.

In which the aesthetic of musical ideas takes precedence over the ideas themselves. As if someone listened to Time Will Die and thought that simply merging elements of disparate genres comprises compelling musicianship. Not a complete failure, but a completely frictionless 50 minutes of a band struggling to find a cohesive identity which just isn't there. This is not the band that I fell in love with years ago, and the grating, flavourless metalcore guitar tones in tandem with baffling production choices hardly help in that regard.

The singles have me a tiny bit worried I cant lie, I liked Cloaked a lot more than Drip. But Time Will Die tracks outclass both of these new singles so far
Edit: singles for sure weakest besides Closer, the rest of the album is an absolute banger and a half. I'm so glad this is good.

yeah it's good. Eva's carrying the record with her vocals, the soundscape is wide and full of lil details, and the back-and-forth between mathcore and post-rock is a tad more seamless than on TWD - yet the math/post parts are still mostly distinguishable. What's missing, to me, is the sheer memorability. This is due to a) the flow - this one struggles to find a pace whereas TWD's most prominent feature is the smoothness of its flow - and b) the songwriting - ain't bad, I just feel the songs spend too much time trying to switch gears: they just can't go full throttle. gud shit, but this ain't the best album released on Feb 4th and that makes me sad.

2018?s ?Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It? could be one of the most monumental releases of my late college career. The atmosphere and intricate lyrics brought out a lot in me that I didn?t fully understand. So, when it got named my best album of 2018 I had high expectations for the band into the future, and although ?Where Myth Becomes Memory? is not anywhere near their last album, it is a great new steppingstone for the band into the future. The band was on the cusp of their post-metalcore sound for years and 2018 saw the full delve into it. Harsh screams, heavy guitars, booming drums, and thick/rich synths and drones. On this new album, they delve more into the post-metal pocket which might seem like a more obvious direction than it did originally. This album is drenched in synths and reverb making it a grand and explosive listen. The pacing of the album is still a bit strange in pockets (like some tracks feel like they should have been somewhere else). I think the band will build off this into a new direction into the future, but for now, it is probably goodbye to the post-metalcore sound they had created for years.

I was mid 4 on the album prior to seeing them play it live. I have sat on a 4.5 for over a year. and with that performance everything flowed and hit perfectly in a very small stage. My wife and I were blown away. Absolutely epic band and a very epic album I love with my whole heart. rAfter a long listen, in order, I think its masterful, perfectly weighted, and top contender for overall best metal.

really dislike the opener and some musical choices on here, but songs like Closer, Drip or The End of Eternity are just majestic and deserve all the accolades. all in all it's a grower. give it some more spins...

I was going to write a review for this having just gotten around to listening to it but the current review sums up a majority of how I feel perfectly so I'll leave it at that. Great album, fantastic dynamics and truly unique in its blend between mathcore and softer ambient/piano/folky types of music.

A great follow up to their stunning 2018 effort. They still have a really good knack at juxtaposing super heavy rhythms and ferocious screams with ethereal clean sections. The biggest issue with this record is the riffs become very similar after a while and so does the songwriting. Time Will Die... felt like a rollercoaster that you could never get off of, and never wanted to while this feels like more of a collection of moments. While there are a lot of beautiful ones they just don't quite add up in the totality of the record.

Another great effort from Rolo Tomassi, however, I don't think this record is as good as Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It. I think this album too closely follows the formula that was established in Time Will Die, however, it's not executed as well. It's still a fantastic record, however, I just enjoyed Time Will Die more.
