From Little Rock, Arkansas, Gothic/alternative metal outfit Evanescence are a band I used to despise at a young age, on the grounds that "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal" were ubiquitous so much that this angel wrote them off entirely. At this point in my life, I consider the entourage simply one of the most okay music groups in the world; not terrible, just inoffensive and - quite frankly - overrated. Evanescence's full-length debut Fallen demonstrates these guys' desire to wake up inside, although throughout the majority of this record's runtime, they can't wake up. Both instrumentally and vocally speaking, there's potential, but a lot of that's squandered by over-the-top sentimentality coupled with songwriting that lacks in any real substance. Decent for what it is, yet Fallen could've been far better. Angel recommends: "My Immortal," "Tourniquet," "My Last Breath," and "Whisper".

This is the first album that got me into music. The lyrics are deep and meaningful and Amy Lee has an incredible voice. The music is also very good.

Another incredibly personal album. I can't say that Evanescene are one of my favorite bands (while their other albums are outstanding) but I always have admitted to Fallen being in my top 5 Nu Metal albums.

Far better than the second release "the open door" I like amy lee but shes incredibly overrated. Some of the tracks get tired, but their are several truely good tracks, Going under, my immortal, tourniquet, bring me to life, haunted, imaginary are all good.
It's not real metal or anything but its still good even if your a metal fan and you have an open mind.

The album really goes of to a fantastic start and really keeps that momentum thought the middle, it does dip a little during the final leg with tracks 8-10. Other then that, this is a solid debut album that was more then deserving of being the phenomenon it became.

The dark and eerie feeling given off by Amy Lee's passionate voice is almost enough to carry the album by itself, along with the inclusion of cascading strings and relaxing piano thrown in. However, what keeps this album from being what it was meant to be in full, is the simplistic instrumentation and the cheesy lyrics. While some of the song's lyrics are written well and some of the instrumental moments can be nice, overall they detract from the sound. However, with Amy Lee and the strings pulling the main weight, this is still a great listen.
