Ladies and gentlemen, one of the most iconic albums of the late 60's: Cream's Disraeli Gears. A respectable album in every sense, it's ruined by closer "Mother's Lament", which is very annoying. Other than that, this remains an interesting collection of songs all the same.

I don't like classic rock anymore, not into psychedelia, I hate Eric Clapton, and even I can't deny that this album is a true masterpiece

An interesting slice of history exists with the album title, Disraeli Gears. It was an erroneous reference from a roadie responding to Eric Clapton's interest in purchasing a bicycle. The band members found it comical and hence their second record had its namesake. Although still blues rock at its core, psychedelia is also heavily present throughout its track list. This combination along with Jack Bruce's unique vocal delivery creates an ominous almost dangerous atmosphere. The iconic opening bass riff to Sunshine Of Your Line is practically inseparable to Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas classic sequence of Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro) at the bar plotting his next maneuver. Ginger Baker thunders that drum kit throughout this affair like a mad viking rowing to shore, eager for battle.

It was great, literally. I wouldn't say it was the very best from what I've heard from Clapton, though. (It'll be a great background album when some friends come over.)

It may be a bit spotty, with clunkers like Take it Back and Mother's Lament clogging up the tracklist, but there is some wonderful psychedelic rock to be found here. Tales of Brave Ulysses in particular I find to be the standout track, one of the heaviest songs ever. Essential listening.

Cream is, indeed, one of the greatest bands of all time. With excellent releases such as Fresh Cream and Wheels of Fire, Disraeli Gears blasts its way in with many memorable tracks and plenty of entertainment. Everybody should get a chance to listen to this magnificent album no matter what type of music you are into. This album makes everyone happy even after dozens of listens.
