| 3.5 great | heck | December 6th 21 | I remember a time when Volbeat was actually fairly well-liked on Sputnikmusic, as the averages for their first few albums would indicate. Once Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies dropped, the site's perception started to change for the worst - which is fair, because with that album began a shift toward mainstream overexposure, toothless overproduction, and watered-down songwriting that brought the band's biggest weaknesses to the forefront. Servant of the Mind seems like an attempt to correct course, re-teaming them with their golden years producer and bringing back the meaty, chunky riffs. Now they sound a little less like Godsmack and little more like drunk Elvis singing for Metallica again.

| 4.0 excellent | Antonius | March 20th 22 | Servant of The Mind finds Volbeat recording probably their most diverse album to date. This is an exciting result, full of catchy and memorable songs. Tracks like "Dagen Før" (feat. Stine Bramsen from Danish pop act Alphabeat) and "Wait a Minute My Girl" are a couple of bright and breeze tracks which go hand-in-hand with "For Evigt" and other radio-friendly songs from the band's repertoire. The two of them however, don't tell the whole story here as the Danes return triumphantly back to their heavy rock/metal roots. Michael Poulsen is once again enchanting and with his distinctively soaring vocals and his trademark Elvis style he delivers a lot of catchy choruses. It should be mentioned however that the rest of the gang has been equally sensational here: riffs being sharp and ferocious while rhythms are upbeat and thunderous. As always, production is shiny, crispy and crystal. Recommendations: "The Sacred Stones", "Say No More", "Shotgun Blues", "Temple of Ekur", "Becoming", "The Devil Rages On".

| 3.5 great | hangth3dj | January 14th 22 | At times I get the feeling that I'm listening to two separate albums fused together...and not always perfectly so. Still an enjoyable listen for the most part though, very Metallica-esque in places.
Wait A Minute My Girl needs to be killed with fire though. The fuck is that song even doing on the album, let alone track #2?

| 4.0 excellent | Navymetalman | December 5th 21 | Outstanding album by the boys from Denmark. This is probably their hardest hitting album in a while. Some great hard rock and some entertaining rockabilly.

| 3.0 good | Steiner | December 4th 21 | It's definitely a better effort than their last release but it's really just 5-6 good tracks and 40 minutes of filler. On a more positive note, the wifey likes it.

| 3.5 great | TheAfterman | December 4th 21 | Volbeat get shunned on Sputnik, but this is a nice bit fat slice of chugging rock and roll. rFor those who checked out with Outlaw Gentlemen... give this album a try and see what you rthink. Recommended tracks: Temple of Ekur, The Sacred Stones, Shotgun Blues, The Devil Rages rOn, Becoming, Lasses Birgitta.

| 4.0 excellent | SpideryMan | December 3rd 21 | Yep, a very pleasant surprise and a heavy return to roots for Volbeat. Seems like the last record was meant to be a bit of an experimental one off type thing. They switched back into prime-volbeat mode surprisingly quickly.
