The band, however you look at it, has obviously more than just a "Christian slant" on this album.
Your comments on "The Widow" and "Terrible!" are not unfounded. These are the worst tracks on the cd, and they also happen to be the ones not quite in tune with the general subject of the album: any certain Christian's (a band member, a listener, etc.) experiences and struggles in their Christian journey, and their relationship with God.
When you take a look at the lyrics (with the exception of the two aforementioned tracks), you can see plainly that the songs were not written to be experienced intimately by anyone other than a Christian. Those who are not on a Christian journey can only peer in, and they don't get the feeling, and sometimes even the understanding of the words that a person who can actually relate to the lyrics gets.

dude this is the best cd ever. the lyrics to the widow are very straight forward and about loving someone after they pretty much destroy your life. just because its(the widow) not dark and deeply poetic doesnt mean its terrible. i found the album quite original and deeply inspiring. im not gonna be like some people and say if you dont like this cd your an ass, but i think the lyrics and just the music in general is completley amazing.

"Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest" is such a good album, which works on both Post-Hardcore and Screamo. The cover art is one of my favorites and i always like to revisit the sound of this band. Perfectly instrumental and with few flaws, As Cities Burn is a band not to be forgotten.

My rating is admittedly biased. This album is more like a 4. But the personal effect the lyrics had on me, and the amount of times I listened to this album as an adolescent have turned this into on-demand nostalgia.

I love everything about this album. The guitars sound beautiful, Cody and TJ's vocals compliment each other perfectly, the lyrics are fantastic. Any fan of post-hardcore should get this

Best As Cities Burn CD...I don't care what anyone says.
"The melodies at the beginning of songs like "The Widow"...remind me of the worst moments on Underoath's They're Only Chasing Safety.
Listen to the lyrics of The Widow like really take in the sorrow and passion in the song because it's the best on the whole album.
