I feel very strongly about this record and it?s made me feel more things from a black metal album that I?ve felt in years. Dude is a certified talent who understands the genre in a way few do. Brilliant, evocative, unyielding?do yourself a favor and check this out when you can.

Am I missing something? This is a competent release, but its ludicrously repetitive. An "average" rating is all that I can muster. I simply don't understand the worship and praise... it brings nothing new or groundbreaking to the table. Half of the repetitions could be shaved from these songs, and it would only serve to increase the overall enjoyment.

An epic suite of many things black metal, Trisagion's memorable melodies are supported by top-notch production and mixing - the way these synths accompany the riffs on "Chasmal Fires" is absolutely superb - as well as spirited performances that every great black metal album needs. Bravo mate.

a cathartic reminder. of pain, of grief, of hate, of love, of healing, of life, of futility. violence and vulnerability in equal measure. one of the greatest artistic achievements in the realm of metal at large, and a serious, earnest contender for the greatest black metal album of all time.

20th January: Ethereal Shroud - Trisagon (atmospheric black metal, 2021)
An absolutely wondrous piece of atmospheric black metal that’s seemingly come out of nowhere. This
is the evolution of a bedroom project, but with live drums, violin and guest vocalists this is
anything but amateurish in its execution. If anything, this may be one of the best sounding metal
records I’ve heard in a while. But it’s not just pretty sounds - there are consistent and frequent
bursts of genuine inspiration in this. There are times where I recall Saor, Winterfylleth, Wolves
in the Throne Room, Gris, Dead Can Dance and more, and the songs are structured in a way that
never lets a section overstay its welcome - a serious feat given the runtimes here. And unlike so
much in modern black metal, it isn’t just atmosphere - there are some serious riffs on this that
are strong reminders of where black metal came from, as I do feel that the modern scene has become
a bit carried away with all the reverb and shoegaze. All in all, this is one of the best things
I’ve heard in a while in black metal, and someday might become one of the modern scene’s defining
albums.

I'm really not a black metal fan, but checked this album out because of the hype. Coming from someone usually wary of black metal, I was deeply impressed. I never thought I'd call black metal beautiful, but the first track was genuinely beautiful. Even brought a tear to my eye at a couple points. The rest of the album is good but never reaches the highs of the first track again. Very good overall.
