Famine elects not to appropriate the art of people he hates this time, returning to the traditional KPN affair of melancholic, folk-y post-punk with a black metal veneer. His human trash status hasn't diminished his ability to write a melody, or rope them together into an affecting arrangement. Listen and enjoy, but don't buy.

Smells like Camembert cheese? Le Retour Des Pastoureaux is a wild ride, but that's the default option for a Peste Noire album. The result is a less black metal, but more post-punk-with-a-rooster-vocalist oriented release - which sounds KINDA thrash-ish or post-rock-ish or even shoegaze-ish in certain moments. I can honestly say I can't understand shit, but I still dig Famine's riffs.

I'm going to steal a random youtube comment for my soundoff, one that perfectly describes
this album: It's like a twisted and sick black metal fairy tale, but with burps in it,
and the storyteller is drunk as fuck. What a "retour".
