4.0 excellent | ajcollins15 | July 28th 21 | The sophomore record from the six-piece North Carolina-based band sees them revamping their sound from their debut 2013 album ?Grammatology?. Keeping with the artistic side of that album and lacing it with rich chamber folk instrumentals and powerful midwest emo lyrics and guitar fills. Although this album is way too long for its own good, what is presented here is extremely strong and powerful. Influences are rich, but not distracting, the sound is lovely and bright without going overboard, and the playing is top-notch all over the record. My only other complaint is the album can be too similar after a while which can be a bit of a downer after an hour.

3.5 great | Erwann S. STAFF | July 12th 21 | At best gorgeous, at worst ok in the background, The Idyll Opus is a gargantuan release clocking at almost 100 minutes. While the genres at play are well put together - indie rock, emo, country do work well together -, the overload of good music does not prevent the record to feel long, thus hindering the overall experience.

5.0 classic | MonotoneCulprit | November 20th 21 | June goes to a party expressly for the purpose of being the douche who plays a guitar at parties. Album is a masterpiece.

3.0 good | Gene Gol CONTRIBUTOR | September 28th 21 | I may be much less forgiving than my peers here of albums that do not justify their lengths (this goes equally for albums too short for their own good). The lyrics suffer the Dear Hunter fate of being there only symbolically sometimes and dp not really do much with the narrative, often dragging the album down with what seems like filler material. Filler is also the music at times, especially when the main musical concept and ideal runs out of steam and then remains drained and tiring for the duration of the rest of the album.
