5.0 classic | windexfighter77 | August 20th 21 | I gave them credit for having the audacity to name this album Colors 2 before it released without actually expecting too much in that direction, but FUCK did these guys prove me wrong. I have given it two full listens and I can honestly say I think I like this better than Colors...

4.5 superb | Assemblage | August 20th 21 | This starts off so close to Colors with Monochrome/The Double Helix of Extinction it's almost scary. Straight dope into the veins, but the album becomes progressively more Automata as it reaches its end. The Double Helix of Extinction is life though, and really the entire album makes Coma Ecliptic look like a newborn infant compared to this monster.

2.0 poor | And heavy metal is about BALLS | June 26th 21 | Metal died in 1993. Only 12 good albums have been released since then (most of them in 1994, being already recorded by 1993). Metal achieved its creative peak in albums like Onward to Golgotha, Pure Holocaust, and The Red in the Sky is Ours, elevating the genre into a legitimate art form. Now, thanks to BTBAM and Gojira, all its potential was squandered and the genre has been reduced into being mere gimmick ridden noise for drunk idiots (i.e. the lowest common denominator - stop trying to turn underground metal into AC/DC).

4.0 excellent | Quietview | August 20th 21 | A very good sequel. The song writing has improved and I really enjoy that they have incorporated the synth prog stuff and crazy cool jazz sections in a cohesive fashion. I'm nota big BTBAM fan but I do like Colors and I think this is even better than Colors. But, I agree with the DO NOT TRUST guy above (ha!), that even though I think this album is superb, will I come back to it much? I'm not sure. rIt's a once a year, put it on to appreciate the prog metal meets Jazs stuff like you put on a good movie sometimes but that's it. BTBAM does not hit me emotionally.

2.5 average | Gene Gol CONTRIBUTOR | February 7th 22 | Can't really pick out what about this album is supposed to be a follow-up to 'Colors', musically and compositionally speaking. The highlights do hit hard, but in between is a dry and nondescript layer of mush mostly flashy with technical agility, but lacking severely in structure or memorability.

3.0 good | XSebbyMcMuffinX | October 1st 23 | Multiple comments about edge lord purists sadly sums up the stylistic vacuum that is currently the second half of BTBAM's career so far. At this point, I'm not expecting anything new, and this album doesn't actually have that much to do with the old shit, despite all the rehashes and getting a little bit heavier again; Very little of the vast amount of new material sounds like it's actually accurately a continuation of Colors. The most daring thing about Colors 2 is that it exists. Good for them. Hopefully Colors 3 is more airtight and serves a more pointed artistic purpose rather than just being a mishmash of BTBAM elements that might as well have been algorithmically constructed.

2.5 average | rudy4u51 | June 10th 22 | My love for Colors 1 caused me to give this a 4 on first listen. After multiple listens, I just can't say I like it or get it at all. I wanted so badly to like this but it's just not hitting at all like the first one. I think one of my major complaints is that the riffs are simple and there is little complexity that really made me enjoy Colors 1. Colors 1 is one of my favorites of all time. Colors 2 should have never been given that title.

4.0 excellent | c0nf1n3d | January 28th 22 | Between the Buried and Me could've easily wrote whatever they wanted, called it "Colors II", and called it a day. Of course, that's what they did ultimately, but there's genuine effort here to replicate the pacing that the first Colors album did - such as starting soft giving the listener a 'false sense of security' leading to the glistening crescendo to the hard-hitting scales the band has a mastery at by now. Unfortunately, this almost feels like a double-edged sword; as a listener, you may not be as surprised this time around. What also doesn't help, is the fact that there's hardly the insane 'genre experimentation' in this one that Colors actually featured. In many ways, this echoes what you might see in film sequels: Does a lot of the same stuff as the first one, yet not as good as the first one.

0.0 | Lichtbringer | August 29th 21 | An incoherent mess of wasted potential. Less would've been a lot more.
Bump |
5.0 classic | Inoculaeted | August 28th 21 | During the pandemic btbam secretly wrote an album and had the balls to call it a sequel to their most iconic release, which has since garnered certified classic status. They?ve done the impossible and actually delivered on that, coming as close as conceivably possible to matching the quality and playfulness of that 2007 masterpiece.
Bump |
3.5 great | ajcollins15 | August 25th 21 | What is there to say about BTBAM that has not already been said. The metalcore has continued to be one of the most interesting metalcore bands in existence and they have continually turned the metalcore genre on its head. But in reality, they also have one of the safest catalogs of albums to ever really do it, which is all fine and dandy until the last decade saw the huge fall of metalcore. So BTBAM?s answer was to change into something new and that new is metalcore with the use of more avant-garde metal ideas like the use of electronics, jazz, and various kinds of world music. They continue that idea on their sophomore outing in the ?Colors? name and their 11th album to date. This album is a lot to digest. Progressive metal melodies and riffs, with metalcore screams and breakdowns, and avant-garde metal wankery laced throughout the project. And for the most part, this album comes off really well, but it is also over-bloated and for the most part, the avant-garde nature of the project doesn?t quite fit many of the times. This album is very much flipping back and forth and doesn?t incorporate anything all that well. But most of what is here is very good if not great.
Bump |
3.5 great | Seasoneddust | August 23rd 21 | ...sure the hooks are catchy, just not as memorable as previous albums. I had no goosebumps listening to it - which is rare with BTBAM. But I'll keep listening, maybe it grows on me. While I absolutely enjoy some moments within songs, I can't say the same for the whole thing.

4.0 excellent | 0GuyMan0 | August 20th 21 | First listen, calling it a 4. There are so many moments of brilliance scattered around (like the original) that scratch an itch I hadn't noticed was there. It's pretty.....on the nose, but I'm really enjoying it so far. Lots of really fun callbacks.
