stunningly boring, like if you made all the drum parts in heatwork half time and all the riffs rubbish

Through "Torn Artieries" Carcass gave us a lesson, how to make an entertaining and colorful modern metal album. The groovy, thick base and the momentary "softness" (like the solos in "In God We Trust") forms an interesting synergy, but each song and section focuses around nothing but melodies.

Old veggie Bri'ish dudes rockin' hard. It is kinda predictable and safe, but, you know, well-performed good riffs are cool to listen to. The inner groove is also central, yet it mostly works as the core around which the melodies play their central role.

At the risk of sounding imposing with personal biases, I'd wager to suggest that two facts are undeniable here, in my view. One that Carcass are not as strong as they were in their youth, but neither are they trying to be. This album is more of a kickback to those days, trying to make the best you can today. And second, they are as strong as any band of this status and career can be. It seems that the fanbase has been divided into two camps, each of them sure to disagree with one of the above statements.
