After a watered down rehash (Every Open Eye) of their debut and a half-assed attempt at chart climbing electropop (Love Is Dead), CHVRCHES actually return to the drawing board and change their sound up. It's not monumentally different of course, but the beats hit a bit harder and (gasp!) there's a few guitar lines scattered around. Has some of their best material since Bones

I liked Love Is Dead but this is an obvious step above, havent felt this way about listening to a
Chvrches album since Every Open Eye. A welcomed return!

I don't know if most people even listen to both bands, but to me this is like a sweeter, lighter, less twisted The Birthday Massacre. Both bands use hard beats, layers of electronics, and excellent female vocals. This is just catchier and feels a little less dark. I'm sold.

The 80s post punk and new wave influence is very apparent, not even to mention a great additional feature from Robert Smith of The Cure (and a remix of Good Girls from John Carpenter). It?s an album that has the band using their sound and implementing some of the most sounds from that era and they succeed by making their best album since their debut.

Best they have ever sounded, and that?s saying quite a lot since I adored their first two albums. When Love Is Dead released, I was afraid they had fallen into tasteless pop music, but this proves that is not the case. It?s darker, richer, and fuller while still retaining the charm CHVRCHES has always excelled at.

Chvrches have a new fan after Screen Violence embraces a darker, more mature approach to their songwriting. Standouts include the relentlessly catchy "He Said, She Said", the soaring and bleak "Violent Delights", and the sweet "Lullabies".
